I didnt really wanna have to buy a new one if the one i have did work. Thanks for all your help guys. ill keep trying

Usually older soundblaster cards will run on the generic XP drivers. You could try physically uninstalling it (i.e. remove the card from its slot, boot into windows. Close the system down & refit the card, boot to windows again and see if it works.
Failing that, a new card might be the answer... I'm sure I have an older but functional SB kicking around somewhere. |

I don't think you have a sound card, from what you said, nor do I think it's a Creative chip. Try and find out the make and model number of your motherboard and try and find the sound driver from their web site
